Statesmanship has to be judged first and foremost by whether you recognize historic opportunities and seize them.

I overheard a choice bushism last week and was directed to the source by my friends within the comment space on Eschaton.
The woman mentioned in the White House transcript by the President is the wife of notorious Senate hair helmet and cat sadist Dr. Bill Frist:

He married a Texas girl, I want you to know. (Laughter.) Karyn is with us. A West Texas girl, just like me. We both married above ourselves, didn't we, Senator?

All I can say is, "Fabulous!"

This morning's Washington Post has another example of bushwhacked speech from the President's May 25th meeting with Iraqi amputees:

I'm honored to shake the hand of a brave Iraqi citizen who had his hand cut off by Saddam Hussein.

I guess he concluded with, "Come on, folks, let's give 'em a hand."
