Vice President Cheney--Now, in my capacity as vice president, I am the president of Senate, the presiding officer. I'm up in the Senate most Tuesdays when they're in session.
The first time I ever met you was when you walked on the stage tonight.

Transcript-Commission on Presidential Debates

Though this elderly cardiac patient spoke with a command absent from last week's hunched and forlorn President, one thing is very clear, the Vice President's 30 year record of alleged public service hasn't endeared his "quick-tempered" persona to vast chunks of the federal bureaucracy.
The unloved Cheney, yet without recourse to stockades or the hangman, doesn't even have to speak before the policy dimes start dropping from the usual suspects (the CIA) and, even, unlikely suspects (Paul Bremmer).
Earlier this week a time-filling Republican cable gasbag in search of some unknown rhetorical pinnacle cast the Vice President as Hamilton Burger in a fantasy that starred John Edwards as Perry Mason.
But, as last night's debate progressed and Cheney's jabs were rebuffed by a folksy Edwards, I began to see the Perryesque nuances.
Remember how in some episodes, Perry would create a circumstance wherein even the dour and bumbling Burger could be brought to the point of a smile?
Last evening Perry Edwards, the Knight in Shining Niceness, graciously managed to shame Vice Dragon Hamilton Cheney out of his smear and slime cave into warming familial light.
And, as our Dragon warmed, the reflected light illuminated a possibly unifyingly skilled diplomat and very Vice Presidential John Edwards.
